cheer tshirt!

So, here is my finished design for our cheerleading t shirt competition. Am hoping mine gets picked as it came out better than I hoped! Was a nice bit of procrastination in the end! And something else to add to my portfolio.

 Original design

In blue (team colours) *Update-have edited out on of the arms as a few people suggested the bottom base looked a bit odd and like a 3 armed monster!!

And this is the reference photo I used :)

the disappearance of the guadalupe caracara

I made another book! Actually planned this one as I wanted it to have more of a narrative, even if it was quite a simple one.

I made a book!

Last week we had a lecture from artist and illustrator Georgina Hounsome. She talked to us all about her practice and how she is moving into doing projects using small press, creating books which can be sold at art fairs and in galleries. We got a chance to look through all her small sketchbooks and printed books and I got inspired!
So nooooow the birds are going to be in books for my finals! Not sure how this is going to go as yet but this is my first experiment, doing a few different drawings, trying out different ways of putting ink on the backgrounds, and using more thermographic ink. I went a bit off on one putting rainbow sparkle on but the silver and blue work pretty well :)

doing a jordan

Slightly copying jords way of photographing so you don't see the whole illustration haha! I am part of Plymouth Storm Cheerleading squad and we are having a competition to design tshirts for when we go to the University nationals in easter.
Just did this drawing which I am pretty happy with! Need to photoshop out some a fair few mistakes and might vectorize it to make it a bit more graphics-y before adding our logo and having a bit of a play around with the composition.

moa walking

So for the past couple of weeks I have been doing work experience at the Animated Exeter festival doing all sorts of animation related things! Helped in a few workshops for kids where they were doing fun stop motion animations with cut out characters and zoetropes, kids come up with the most hilarious things!
For my last day I was working in an "Introduction to ToonBoom Software" workshop. There wasn't much for me to do so I got the chance to have a play around myself! Drew this bird but there was too much detail on his legs which I would have had to keep rubbing out and re-drawing to animate them! So basically I just got lazy and made him move around and gave him a smily face at the end!
Not exactly amazing but ah well it was a bit of fun, think this software is really good if you know what to do with it!

new pens and pencils :)

Me and Holly weren't getting enough done today so we went shopping for stationary! wooop. I had some vouchers for helping decorate a window for uni so I went a bit crazy. Got two types of mechanical pencils, one lot were in a pack of 5 with all different patterns including robots!!! And I got a new fountain pen which is really nice to draw with and means I don't have to carry ink everywhere which is good :) I also got turquoise, purple and pink ink cartridges because they looked like fun!

Oh yeah and heres some more birds incase you hadn't seen enough already :p

darkroom

I guess this goes away from illustration a little bit but ah well! I did a darkroom workshop this week which means I can finally get into the darkroom to do exciting things with prints! For this workshop I just developed some photos of Exeter as I have been working at their Animation festival this week.

 Test strips!

thermographic birds

Some people on my course are organizing a thermographic induction, when looking up what this was i found out that it involved something I have done since I was a child.
When I was younger we always used to decorate cards with stamps and embossing ink. You pour thermographic powder over the ink, tap off the excess, and then melt the ink over a cooker to leave a shiny coloured finish!
I brought back all of the pots of thermographic powder from home so I could do some experiments, I like how the blue and silver compliment the ink and add a bit of shine and sparkle to the drawings.

more scribbler birds

More photoshop. I think I have found out from these that some work well and some just look a bit off.. Also the scribbler files are screen shots and therefore are pretty low resolution which is a pain when editing as the overlay goes all pixelated!

These I left the scribble in colour which I think works quite well over the ink.

ipad life drawing

Slowly getting to grips with the ipad. First drawing here was 20 mins second was 45. You can see a pretty huge difference between the two, I learnt a lot from the first one to make the second one better.
