scribbler

Used a tablet for the first time today :) got inspired by Jo LB's post about scribbler software and decided to try it out drawing some birds! I did a few using different colours which worked quite well.

These are some i printed and painted over before overlaying the digital lines on top on Photoshop. Was a bit of an experiment, i like the linework that comes out of it but am still undecided as to whether it works combining the line with ink.

Think the duck is definitely my favourite :)

birds birds birds

All i have done all day is sit at my desk and do some good (and some awful) bird drawings. Looked through my box of art materials and found all sorts of textured papers and inks and paints that have sat in there since the summer :)

life drawing

Found some ink in the life room and decided to try working smaller in more of my own style. This took 45 mins, next time I will spend even more time on all the shadows and highlights as I think this will help when i am drawing out to make things more accurate!

excited

Have spent all of this morning trawling through last years work for various exciting reasons and found some quite nice images from our story book module illustrating fairytales!

Its nice to look back at old work and like it rather than just thinking how awful it is which i feel about some things from last term!

Widening Participation Workshops at Plymouth University

Just before christmas me, Jo Larsen Burnett and Katie Keith ran mini-zine workshops as part of a taster day at our university. The workshops were about 45 minutes long and we set the children the task of creating their own stories using inanimate objects such as clocks, teapots and keys.
We made the zines up beforehand so they had more time to draw! Below we have various stories including a train flying to the moon, a key breaking into a house to play SEGA and a teapot with magical powers!

we made an ipad app!

Had a day long workshop today learning the basics of making a Zine that plays on an ipad. I was working with Holly liminton and Megan Ashford. We decided to name our collective "Mahojo" and do a small bio with a couple of images each. It is surprising how long this takes especially when you have to make landscape and portrait versions of each page for when the screen rotates! Looked pretty swish when we were finished though. I hope to have another go at this perhaps in our new module, after all it seems digital is the future!

bird is the word

First few drawings for our new brief creating images for the Ghosts of Gone Birds project. This project involves different kinds of artists creating work showing the extinct birds and bringing them back to life through drawings, paintings, music etc.  The project hopes to raise awareness of these species and others that are close to extinction!

brightly coloured things.

Considering my last project was almost entirely monochrome, I would say this is something quite out of my comfort zone! Doing some artwork for a greetings card company, I chose birds as it links into my next uni project. These are done in ink line with gouache, bought the gouache in the summer and this is the first time I have used it. Quite like how they came out, the lovebirds are my favourite. Feedback anyone?

Added some watermarks incase for some crazy reason they actually print my work ;)

trees and birds

In the studio today trying to do some designs for a card company that uses artwork by students and recent graduates. Their brief is ridiculously open so I could draw anything I want and I have no idea where to start! Did this drawing though and a few experiments on Photoshop. Might submit this for something else as I think i can do something more cheery for the card brief! Went off on a tangent a bit haha ah well...

opinions anyone?
