Paint and Trees

This week I have been doing some workshops with autistic children as part of Plymouth Universities widening participation scheme. Todays workshop was run by Jo LB of Drawing Together, and we were making trees with the children to be put together into a magical forest.

The children were given large sheets of paper to draw their trees onto. They then could draw any kind of tree shape they wanted and use collage, drawing, stencilling and printing techniques to create their trees.

There were some wonderful creations :)

As they were happy to get on with working, we decided to get involved and make our own trees and have a general play around!

Jo used stencils and printing

Jordan did some paper engineering.

and I played around with some UV paint and drew some colourful leaves! Sometimes I wish I was a child again, painting things is so much more fun than I remembered...

I dont really know what this is

But I might like it...?

Wanted to draw some things on top of photos I took in the Lake District to see how it would work. I ended up making the photo a bit more strange and fantasy-like.

What do you think?

america sketchbook so far!!

So it has been absolutely crazy here at Long Lake, I teach illustration 6 hours a day and the rest of the time is spent looking after the kids from 7.30-10.00 in the evening! Pretty mental to be honest. I have one free period a day to chill out so I have done a few sketches, I also did a really big one of the whole of camp to make into a batik for the kids to colour! The batik came out kinda crazy coloured and not too great but I liked the drawing so I will be scanning it in to colour when I get home :)

They have tonnes of prismacolour markers here (basically promarkers) which I have decided I quite like! Kids keep leaving the lids off all of them though so they keep getting thrown away, makes me sad :(

moa's in the darkroom!

Doing a bit of experimentation for my next book by drawing onto tracing paper and overlaying it with a photo in the darkroom! Tried this in college with text, I like the way the line comes out in white! Any opinions on which look better, black or white line, would be greatly appreciated!!

trees and birds

In the studio today trying to do some designs for a card company that uses artwork by students and recent graduates. Their brief is ridiculously open so I could draw anything I want and I have no idea where to start! Did this drawing though and a few experiments on Photoshop. Might submit this for something else as I think i can do something more cheery for the card brief! Went off on a tangent a bit haha ah well...

opinions anyone?
