Game Of Thrones Tapestry

So at the beginning of May I booked a last minute trip to Belfast with my boyfriend. We spent our first day there wandering around near Queen's University where there is a wonderful Botanical garden and the Ulster Museum, both free to enter. Games of Thrones has brought a huge boost to Northern Ireland's tourism, there are many different locations you can visit that were used for filming. We did our own little road trip to a few of these amazing places along the coast and it was pretty amazing.
Tourism Ireland has created a Tapestry which is currently on show at The Ulster Museum, it is 77m long and still growing, with new sections being added as the new season is shown! I couldn't believe the sheer scale of the tapestry, it shows the storyline as it develops (so there may be some spoilers if you read too much into the images below).

The sheer details of all the embroidery is really beautiful. Some of it is pretty grim, I have only watched a few episodes of Game of Thrones (don't judge me!) but I remember some of the deaths being pretty graphic and gruesome.

I would highly recommend a visit if you happen to be in the area, the rest of the museum has a lot to see too! Let me know what you think.

HOT14 Plymouth Graphic Design Show

Next in my series of Plymouth Degree show posts we have Graphic Design. Being an illustrator the design at Plymouth is very type based and not always my cup of tea as someone who prefers pattern and loose lines over order. These are my favourite bits from the show!

Lovely type and tiny line drawings.

I love the vintage feel of the faded ink here.

Blown away by the masterful paper sculpture!

I just like this because of the acrobatics...

HOT14 Plymouth 3D Design Show

Apologies for the late running of these posts, the show is long gone now as I have spent the last two weeks moving house rather than updating my blog with photos!

Still- for all those who didn't get to go to the degree show here are some pictures of the 3D design section. I have always loved  the more crafty side of 3D design. There are always some very unique pieces of furniture, lighting and jewellery in this show, these are some of my favourites.

If you know any of the artists do let me know and I will update this with credits.

This was a branding solution for gandy's flip flops - I just love the liberty print ones and wish I had all the monies in the world for these and some liberty print nikes!

Cheeky self portrait

Let me know what you think of these? What designs are your favourites?

HOT14 Plymouth Illustration Show

I took a trip down to Plymouth last week to catch up with some uni friends and check out this years degree show. It was interesting to go back and see the work all the third years have been making to motivate myself to start something new. I am currently in the process of moving house which is taking up a lot of time and thinking space but I have a nice little dresser in my new room which I will be turning into a desk I hope :)

I find it interesting going to these shows because there is such a wide variety of drawing styles and themes. I chose my course because they encourage you to follow the style you work most comfortably in, rather than getting you to try what they like and criticising your work otherwise (which I have heard from some people). I have linked to the people whose work I recognise, comment if yours is here and you would like me to put a credit under!

Lucy Feebs - wish I could bend like these awesome ladies

Hope you liked these, over the next couple of weeks I will be bringing you some pictures of the product design and photography work to continue this series - let me know what you think of these!
