Degree Show Prep and Private View

So I had my final assessment just over a week ago and since then I have been doing a lot of eating, drinking, being lazy, and also freaking out about the fact that actually I still had things to do to finish off my degree show walls...

We were locked out of the studio until thursday afternoon when everyone came in and started to hang all of their final work. I had cards to print and glitter up (never thought putting glitter on cards would be stressful - I was wrong...). I also had to iron some more wrapping paper and finish labelling many things for the pop up shop.

Got some photos of people's work going up:

Ben and Joe making a playlist and disliking me with my camera...

Andjela's  zodiac wrapped presents

Katie Keith had a bistro set out to show off her icecream prints.

Jenny M has been printing lots of tshirts.

I was pretty knackered and may have tested out my cushions before putting them on display

And now for the opening night!! Such a stressful day as I was organising the bar and running around with bags of ice cubes and plastic cups.

Cakes were out

Booze was being poured

Shop was stocked

We took some cheeky photos of us with our walls before it got too busy! Here is me with all my work and a glass of pimms (yay!)

Jess with hers

and Holly.

The tutors then did illustration awards which were proper trophies of golden eagles! Super awesome, all were well deserved :).
After this the photos end up a little bit more silly because of all the free cider, wine and champagne so not sure they are suitable for here...

maybe just the one...

The degree show is open 10-5 every day from now until June 26th so if you can come see it, there is all sorts of work up, from fine art and illustration to graphics and 3D design!

Handmade Arcade Take 2

So despite having a very important deadline on Tuesday I have been sneakily working away at making things to sell online and at craft fairs! I wanted to go to Handmade Arcade again because firstly - its always nice to chat with Nathan and Hayley and the other crafty people, and secondly, I figured this time it would be warmer and more people would be around than before christmas when it was freeezing!

I got a lift with some of the second years Ben, Miles and Bevin, who decided to get their faces painted in exchange for artwork :)

They had a lot of prints, cards and tshirts for sale and made this awesome collaborative drawing over the course of the day!

There were lots of beautiful crafty things for sale and we had some amazing vegan cakes (thanks Hayley)

My stall was in front of the Good Golly Miss Molly shop, I am in love with this place, they sell a huge range of handmade jewellery and accessories and hand printed cards and notebooks! If only I was rich...

Crown and Glory hair bows were teasing me through the window all day!

Here is me all set up and some of the things I had offer, had an awesome day chilling out and chatting to crafty people, and managed to make a little bit of money too :) . If you are in the Exeter area I recommend heading down to Mccoys arcade and Fore Street, there are so many unique shops to explore.

So much sewing!

This week has involved a lot of making things for my end of year show including cushions to be displayed and purses, pencil cases and notebooks to be sold!

My sewing machines has taken a battering this week and the light is now broken, I also may have nearly sewn through my finger - the needle went all the way into my fingertip but luckily the thread didn't catch ;).

Have put prices by things, please comment if you see anything you want!

Cushion covers printed and ready to be sewn!

First cushion cover finished :)

All 4 covers together - now I just need the cushion pads to arrive! Price to be confirmed, these will be on display at my degree show.

Hand bound A6 notebooks with sewn spine. £2.50 each

Hand sewn coin purses £6 each

Hand sewn pencil cases £6 each

(the last two images I seem to have forgotten to make sure my camera was focused... deadline stress means rubbish photos sorry!)

Stickers and badges and other fun things

Had our portfolio and promotional materials hand in today which was pretty exciting. After this all I have to focus on is making and printing things for the show - still terrifying but every deadline is a massive load of work we can stop worrying about!

So far this week has consisted of many things:

-Spending about 5 days tweaking business card designs before scrapping most of the edits I had done and just using artwork I already had..

-Sooo much cutting out of sticker pages

-Having a mini breakdown in relation to Tshirt transfer paper which just didn't want to stick on

-Breaking the light on my sewing machine sewing through paper...

-Having awkward conversations with the printers about how the postcards we got printed look horribly dull

-Lots of terribly unhealthy food including free cake

-Printing, and reprinting, and tweaking, and more printing and more photoshop

-More money spent on ink, paper and printing than I spent on food the past 6 weeks

Despite all this, I now have a large amount of lovely colourful things, lots of stickers, postcards, and final business cards on their way! Though the next couple of weeks will be just as crazy, it is quite exciting to know that we have conquered another milestone in the workload that is third year! The Pimms is finally in sight and I truly cannot wait :)
